Most job seekers ignore key LinkedIn sections that recruiters actually check. Learn how Featured, Recommendations, and Education win interviews.
Most job seekers pour every ounce of effort into their headline and About section, then completely overlook the rest of their profile. Here is the coaching truth: recruiters often find their real proof in the LinkedIn sections nobody bothers to polish. Those overlooked areas frequently decide whether you land in the "maybe" pile or the "must interview" pile.
In our latest roundtable episode, our recruiting team closes out our LinkedIn optimization series by focusing on the LinkedIn sections that rarely get any attention: Featured, Recommendations, Licenses and Certifications, and Education. These sections are not decorative extras. When you use them intentionally, they sharpen your story, appeal to both algorithms and humans, and help you stand out in a market that still favors employers.
We start with the Featured section, essentially the trailer for your About section and your personal proof of impact gallery. Most people treat this space as a random pile of old posts. Instead, use it with intention. Feature case studies, portfolio samples, and three to six of your highest impact wins.
From there, we move into Recommendations. We cover how you can ask for them without feeling awkward, exactly who you should approach (think managers, peers, and clients), and why a generic "great team player" comment lands about as memorably as describing a friendly golden retriever.
Next, we dig into Licenses and Certifications compared with Education, and we share real stories straight from the recruiting trenches. Vague degree titles or unclear certification dates do more than raise eyebrows. They slow down submissions and cost candidates real interviews. The fix stays simple: keep every credential accurate, clearly separated, and current, especially when a client requires a specific certification.
Our goal stays simple. We want to show you why these often ignored LinkedIn sections carry more weight than most job seekers realize. This episode will shift how you think about completing your profile from top to bottom.
Listen to Part 1 now, then take a fresh look at these LinkedIn sections on your own profile.
